How To Care for Your Jewellery
We are often asked, 'what is the best way to keep silver from tarnishing' or for info on the best way 'to keep silver shiny'. I mean after all, when you've just received a fabulous silver necklace Christmas present from your loved one or a sterling silver bangle for your birthday, you're going to need to know how to look after it. The answer is simple, you either (1) wear it, (2) store it in a ziplock bag or (3) polish it. In no specific order, polishing your jewellery is an obvious one. There is nothing that I can think of that doesn't get dirty, and jewellery is no exception. So from time to time, it's going to need a clean (take a look at our polishing cloths for a great way to clean silver, gold and platinum). Other than that, wearing your silver jewellery also helps because solid sterling silver jewelry loves the natural oils of your skin. I don't know the chemical reactions involved, I just know that they go together like bacon and eggs or a horse and carriage! Finally, if you have a piece of sterling silver jewellery that you are not going to wear for a while, you really should polish it and put it into a ziploc bag (airtight bag) as it is the oxidization of silver that a lot of people refer to when they ask if 'the silver is going to change color'. Oxidized silver is not really a problem If it happens, you just need to clean it again, with a cloth like ours :-)
